The Text Mangler Project

For a while now, e-mails have been circulating on the internet claiming that the order of letters in a word is unimportant for human comprehension, provided the start and end letters are correct. A typical example is given below:

"Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteres are at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a tatol mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe."

Fairly easy to understand? Maybe... or was this example cleverly crafted to illustrate the point?

Maybe... so take a look at the quote on the brown bar below - how easy is that to understand?
(Hint: if you can't understand it, just roll your mouse over it!)

This even has its own page on snopes.com - the internet Urban Legends Reference here

On this site you can try mangling some of your own text, or view the mangled results of previous visitors' attempts, or send a mangled e-mail.
